About Bracknell Camera Club

Bracknell Camera Club has been around since 1954 and is one of the largest clubs in the South East with a total membership of around 80 and typical attendance of 40 to 50 at our weekly meetings. We meet on Thursdays at the 'Coopers Hill Centre' which is close to the Railway station in Bracknell. (For those far away, Bracknell is a modern town about 50 Kilometres west of London and a centre of the computer industry in the UK.) The main programme runs from September to June with a mix of social events, print and slide competitions and talks by visiting photographers on their work and technique.

The style of the club is one that allows members to involve themselves as much or as little as they wish. We have 7 slide competitions and 5 print competitions during the year - most  with a section for 'advanced' and 'standard'. The entries are commented on and marked by visiting judges and prizes awarded at the end of the season. The club also organizes competitions against other local clubs and enters 'Southern Photographic Federation' events. 

The bulk of the season is taken up with more than twenty visiting speakers talking about their work in all areas of photography - subjects ranging from landscape to birds; plants and wildlife; and to aviation and industrial work  As well as all this, the club runs a number of social events at Christmas and throughout the summer period at a selection of local pubs. These include a club barbecue. Individuals also organize trips to events and locations that are particularly good photo opportunities.

Most of our members now use digital techniques to produce their work - but you don't need expensive equipment to be a member - just an interest in photography. Annual membership for 2007/8 is £36 single, £66 joint or £10 for students - that's less than £1 per session!!
